Supergau 2023

Residency 2022/23 @ Supergau for contemporary art

Residencies play an important role and allow me to work context-dependent. Staying on location makes it possible to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment. My research in the Lungau region of Austria started from June 2022 and will continue towards the Supergau Festival in 2023. I will focus here on the rural exodus (called 'landflucht') where young people from this area move towards the city. With the site specific concept 'Conversation Pieces' I want to initiate opportunities to imagine and discuss the future.

The Black Plinth 2020

The Black Plinth 2020/21 @ Gouvernement

Residencies play an important role in order to be able to work context-dependent. Staying on location makes it possible for me to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment. 'The Black Plinth' was the title of my research in Langerbrugge in the summer of 2020. As part of the Konnektor program, various artists came together here on behalf of the art institution Gouvernement. During this working period, I focused on the relationship of people in Langerbrugge with the Langerbrugge-South coupling area and the heritage site of the former Langerbrugge Power Station. My findings came together in the imagination plan entitled 'Mission Dhuicque'. Part of this proposal was the light artwork 'Position 2 - View of the Langerbrugge Power Station', which I realized together with Konnektor as part of the side program of the Ghent Light Festival 10 - 14 November 2021.

Where: Langerbrugge, Belgium

When: 2020 - 2021

In collaboration with the people of Langerbrugge, the participating artists and the team of Konnektor

The Battle of Lice 2019

The Battle of Lice 2018/19 @ De Koer

'The Battle of Lice' was the title of my research at the social and artistic center de Koer in Ghent. In the period of one year, I looked at the situation in the multicultural neighborhood of Brugse Poort. It was a year in which elections were held and where the influence of right-wing populist parties in Flanders grew. This district of Ghent was polarized around mobility measures. It brought me to the idea of organizing 'The Placing', a participatory sound piece that could engage with these circumstances. 'The Placing' was an artistic attempt to influence the inclusive experience of public space. It also offered a special moment to pay tribute to the multilingualism of the Brugse Poort. Residencies play an important role when working context-dependen and they make it possible for me to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment.

Where: Brugse Poort, Ghent, Belgium

When: 2018 - 2019

In collaboration with the people living in de Brugse Poort and the team of de Koer

This residency was possible by the support of de Koer, the City Ghent and Arts Flanders

Reflector 2018

Reflector 2018 @ Museum van Bommel van Dam

The idea for 'Residence park Belfeld a/d Maas' was developed during a research entitled 'Reflector' - an assignment from Circular Art Lab Limburg. During this work period I focused on topics related to the housing market in Belfeld. 'Reflector' ultimately resulted in the village imagination plan 'Residence park Belfeld a/d Maas'. Unfortunately, the team of experts and policymakers has decided not to develop this plan further. Within my artistic practice I organize myself around social issues and look for site specific alternatives in temporary alliances. The urgent issues surrounding housing in Belfeld require our attention. That is why I am looking forward to meet people who want to collaborate on the further development of 'Residence park Belfeld a/d Maas' in the coming years.

Base camp Entre Nous 2017

Base camp Entre Nous 2014/17 @ Stichting KiK

The idea for 'Base camp Entre Nous' was developed over three years in collaboration with Stichting KiK. 'Base camp Entre Nous' eventually became possible through an unconventional collaboration with public and private parties and the efforts of many volunteers. 'Base camp Entre Nous' put the participatory society into practice to investigate its possibilities in this social laboratory. This included discussions about the sustainability of the Dutch welfare state. Residencies play an important role in order to be able to work context-dependent. Residences make it possible to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment.

Where: Frederiksoord, Netherlands

When: 2014 - 2017

In collaboration with Foundation KiK, the people of private and public organizations and the people living in Frederiksoord

This residency was possible by the support of Mondriaan Fund, Province Drenthe, Foundation DOEN and BPD Cultuurfund

5 - 4 = 1 2017

Fidelio 2017 @ Guest Studio Louwrien Wijers

The idea for '5 - 4 = 1' was inspired by texts by the artist Joseph Beuys that I read during a residency in the guest studio of Louwrien Wijers in Ferwerd. '5 - 4 = 1' referred to these texts and was a plea for Beuys' 'broadened concept of art' in times of fragmentation. '5 - 4 = 1' was a theatrical piece about the possibility to see the bus driver as an artist and the representation of a bus full of people as a shared space for the exchange of knowledge and inner growth. Residencies play an important role when working context-dependent. Residences make it possible to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment.

The Making of a Momentum 2016

The Making of a Momentum 2015/16 @ Easville Project Space

The Making of a Momentum was the title of a study in collaboration with the people of Eastville Project Space. During my residency in Yeovil I developed through meetings, walks and presentations the proposal: 'Achieve by Unity | Dawn of Justice'. This idea consists of a triptych, in which the different parts take place at different spots in Yeovil. Each part individually refers to a series of my findings. Residencies play an important role when working context-dependent. Residences make it possible to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment.

Thought Experiment 2014

Thought Experiment 2014 @ Stichting KiK

The idea for 'Thought Experiment' was developed in collaboration with Foundation KIK. 'The Sound of Coop. Dairy De Venen' was about the question whether or not we were able to collectively bring the sound of the past back into the industrial heritage of today. Putting this question into practice created the shared opportunity to learn together from its consequences. During the development of this soundwork I organized the group exhibition 'Thought Experiment'. Residencies play an important role when working context-dependent. Residences make it possible to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment.

The organisation office 2011 @ HMK | Hotel Mariakapel

The idea for 'The organisation office' was developed during a residency at HMK | Hotel Mariakapel. During this residency in Hoorn I tried to make the isolated white cube in the former chapel available as infrastructure for social initiatives from Hoorn. Residencies play an important role when working context-dependent. Residences make it possible to meet people in the dynamics of their own environment.
